Whale Fjord is a long inlet so named for the large number of whales that used to be found here. We stopped near the old naval base which served the British and Americans during World War Two, and wandered around a whaling station, abandoned since the 1980s. It was here that Iceland experienced its only terrorist attack, when activists from Greenpeace sabotaged machinery and attempted to sink two whaling ships. Things were quieter this evening as we stretched our legs before finishing the trip back to the city.
