My main attraction in the Lake District was the Castlerigg Stone Circle, the oldest in England (constructed around 3000 B.C.). Sitting on a windswept hilltop just outside of Keswick, the stones have wonderful views of the Borrowdale valley. Although it is not as large as the circle at Avebury and certainly not as dramatic as Stonehenge, Castlerigg was probably my favorite stone circle because of its location and isolation.
