Icelandic sheep roam free across the land all summer, and the lambs born then live their first few months out of human contact. But come fall, farmers must gather their flocks and drive them back to the farm. The process of sorting out whose sheep is whose happens during the rettir, which used to be one of the biggest social events in the country provinces.
